How do you lead when all about you is chaos, uncertain, uncomfortable?

I’d like to start by asking you how are you doing? Really. On a scale of 1 – 10, how are your energy levels for everything you want to get done today? How confident are you feeling about your capacity and capability to make today a good one? Where have you got time to connect with people who matter to you either professionally or personally?
As you think about your day, week, month are you pre-occupied with what’s going on in the wider world? It might be concern for the global economy, conflict, our environment, the race to create mind blowing technology that replaces humans, plenty to wonder about and think about the legacy for your kids or grandkids. Perhaps you are going through your own life storm. This can be at work. At home. It is very likely one will impact the other, that is natural.
Here’s the thing. You are exquisitely designed to adapt and adjust in a way that will keep you safe and connected, today. If you can think, feel, and act today in a way that optimises the possibility of a better tomorrow, then I guess you would want to go for it. And when you think, feel and act today in a way that compromises tomorrow, is that what you want?
I am not here to make trite comments about the challenges we are facing, all of us in different and similar ways. I am though making a case for us humans. That when we step into our human power and connect to our world and those in it for the good, we can solve anything. Think of the most amazing human achievements that we have made. Creating drugs that save lives. Building the first planes, cars. Developing the technology that enables us to communicate online, speak on the phone, investigate without leaving our desk. What else do you recognise us humans have been instrumental in?
Those things happen through connection. Through human ability and desire to work together and this goes back to our origins.
Let’s get back to you, now and your life, professional and personal.
Your team are impacted by how you react and respond to the uncertainty, the chaos, the uncomfortable experiences and realisations of what is happening day to day. So as a leader, how do you navigate your own stressors so you can create a calm, productive and engaged working environment?
Here is where the Leading through Life Storms conference comes in. You will have the opportunity to hear different stories, tips, approaches that will inspire you and give you ideas to take away. I’m going to be talking about how you can anchor yourself so you can lead your team through stressful times plus how you can connect with your team in ways that can bring a sense of the team working together to adapt and adjust to everything required of them, collectively and individually. Rather than everyone feeling stressed, heads down, real human to human connection that we so need to make us feel someone has our back.
And if you are struggling with an anxiety that overwhelms you, or you are living with depression or other mental health challenges there will be something for you to take away and think about.
I’m sure you will get plenty of value from investing a bit of time in you. Enjoy.
